Code for Baltimore and HACK Baltimore announce a new partnership that seeks to build a large-scale movement around civic improvement through technological progress.

Code for Baltimore is a community of volunteers who develop open-source projects as a Code for America Brigade by focusing on open government, open data, great design, and social good in Baltimore. Code for Baltimore focuses on improving civic services by leveraging community capabilities and technology best practices.

HACK Baltimore is a city-wide movement that taps into Baltimore’s diversity and creativity to develop innovative technology solutions that address some of the city’s long-standing, deeply-rooted civic challenges around Housing, Education, Public Safety, Workforce Development, Health & Wellness and Transportation.

This new partnership will enable HACK Baltimore to increase the number of challenge projects in the pipeline, creating a scalable, sustainable model for engaging community leaders, nonprofits, businesses and city agencies to build solutions.

Code for Baltimore will galvanize teams of technology volunteers, overseeing the “build” portion of the HB development process, which includes best practices, code quality, and delivering the MVP – minimum viable product. HACK Baltimore will identify people in the community and the product owners with the authority to accept and/or use the finished product solution. These identified stakeholders will become part of the Code for Baltimore build team and participate in the build process.

HACK Baltimore is a social innovation movement that leverages the collective talents, leadership, and shared knowledge of those living within our communities to build solutions that can be implemented now.

HACK Baltimore aims to bridge the divide among Baltimore’s diverse populations and organizations, break down silos and barriers, and educate by facilitating honest, difficult, but constructive conversations and discussions to identify solutions.
